There are many internet sites out there promising you a free report and score, just for signing up. Buyer beware.
Many of these sites begin with false promises and you end up footing the bill when you first believed you were
going to pay nothing. Make sure you know what you sign up for and look for hidden costs. Finally, a credit
score is only valid for 30 days. If you buy yours online, print out a copy to keep in your records for future use.

Who are these bureaus and how do I contact them?
The three major credit reporting bureaus are Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. You can write and your request your
free credit report copy once a year, for free. Remember that these companies are not required to provide you
with your score, just a report of items that appear on your account. You will be required to provide name,
social security number, address, date of birth at a minimum. You may also be required to prove who you are
by showing a copy of a recent mortgage, vehicle loan payment, etc. These zero cost credit reports however
do not contain your credit score and in order to get the real picture on your credit situation, you must
contact all of these bureaus independently of each other.
